STAY INFORMED: ACCESS UPDATES

Extensive damage inflicted by Hurricane Helene has damaged WNC forests, roads, and vital infrastructure. While trail crews have been working tirelessly to reestablish access to our forests, restoration efforts are ongoing and trail conditions are unpredictable. With limited cell service and challenging conditions, even your best intentions could impede recovery efforts.

We are committed to keeping you informed as the status of national and state forest access change. Your understanding in these uncertain times is greatly appreciated. NATIONAL FORESTS AND RECREATION AREAS

Pisgah National Forest has OPENED the Pisgah Ranger District. Grandfather and Appalachian districts remain closed. Visit their website for closure details. OR see a comprehensive list on the Pisgah Area SORBA website.

Nantahala National Forest is OPEN in the Cheoah and Nantahala Ranger Districts. There are a few exceptions. Visit their website for closure details.

Tsali Recreation Area is OPEN for hiking, equestrian use, and mountain biking.⁠

STATE FORESTS & PARKS

Dupont State Forest is PARTIALLY OPEN.Despite considerable recovery efforts, some forest areas are still closed, and it’s crucial for visitors to respect all closures. Using a closed trail is against North Carolina state forest regulations and is enforceable under the N.C. Administrative Code. Visitors must follow trail closures, which protect the public from various hazards and ensure our crews can repair trails safely and efficiently. Visit this website for closure details.

Headwaters State Forest in Brevard is OPEN to foot traffic only .

Holmes Educational State Forest, in Hendersonville is partially OPEN.

Bracken Preserve trails in Brevard are OPEN.

Panthertown Valley is OPEN for all user groups.

The Blue Ridge Parkway has partially REOPENED in NC, closure status’ are constantly changing so check their road status page before planning your trip

Gorges State Park has partially reopened to foot traffic only. North Carolina State Parks have reopened or partially reopened with limited access. Check the each State Park’s page for the most updated information.

FIRE MOUNTAIN: Fire Mountain Trail System in Cherokee, NC is OPEN. We encourage bike riders, hikers, and disc golfers to enjoy it!

KOLO BIKE PARK in Asheville is OPEN.

RIDE KANUGA: The bike park located in Hendersonville is OPEN.

RIDE ROCK CREEK: The bike park and shop are currently OPEN.

ROCKY KNOB MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK in Boone is revamped and OPEN.

STUMPHOUSE MOUNTAIN PARK in Upstate South Carolina is OPEN.

We encourage you to be mindful of unnecessary travel through Western North Carolina. Some main roads, especially those linking Tennessee and North Carolina, remain heavily damaged or completely impassable. For the latest Driving Information, click the link provided. Please respect these closures. They are in place to ensure public safety and minimize risks.

Lower Black and Upper Sycamore Cove

If this is your first visit to Pisgah, let us introduce you to a premier mountain bike trail nestled near The Hub.

This popular 7-mile loop is an easy single track that feels like a fun roller coaster. The climbing starts from the trailhead as the trail ascends 1,265 feet to reach a maximum elevation of 2,905 feet. Next up – the fun begins as you reap the fruits of your labor and descend for a full mile. And guess what? You get to do it all over again.

The Mills River watershed features an extensive and well-loved trail network, with numerous paths available for mountain biking. This network spans the North and South Fork Mills River areas.

Looking glass overnighter

Discover the thrill of bikepacking with the Looking Glass Overnighter! Perfect for an easy one-night getaway, this intermediate-friendly route starts near the Hub and swiftly takes you into the heart of Pisgah National Forest.

The route circumnavigates Looking Glass Rock, a mesmerizing pluton monolith rising to nearly 4,000 feet. This trail offers exceptional views of Looking Glass especially in the late fall, winter, and early spring. You can also experience four of the region’s most stunning waterfalls along your journey.

New to bikepacking or just want to try it out? We have a full array of both mountain bikes and gravel bikepacking setups for you to rent plus frame bags and more for carrying all your essential gear. You supply the camping supplies and we’ll take care of the rest!
